Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Jesus to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: episcopate, presbyterate (priesthood), and deaconate.

With the anointing on the forehead by the priest a seriously sick person is blessed with the grace of Jesus Christ so that his love and mercy may help the sick person with the sufferings and pains of his/her illness. The grace of the Holy Spirit is conferred to renew trust and faith in God against temptations to discouragement and anguish in the face of death. It is meant to lead the sick person to healing of the soul, but also of the body if such is God's will. Furthermore, if one has committed sins, they will be forgiven.
For a person who is seriously ill, please make arrangements for the priest to visit the sick person either at home or in the hospital for the Eucharist and Sacrament of the Sick. A priest or special minister of Holy Communion will follow up by making home visits with the Eucharist.
